I was in Walgreens on Monday and a few of the items I had selected had special pricing – if you had their rewards card. Although I did not yet have a rewards card, they were able to identify me in their customer database. Once they identified me, the cashier pulled out a card that allowed me to reap the benefits of any special pricing or deals the store may have. I took it and simply threw it in the big black hole in my purse, but yesterday I noticed something really interesting: the card says “BALANCE REWARDS.”

And then I got to thinking about the irony in the messaging. When you plan and practice balance, you are able to reap the valuable rewards it has to offer. So I want to work a little backwards here. What are some rewards of practicing balance?

  • Live, laugh, love – in peace
  • Clear mind – we make better decisions
  • Restful vs Restless – achieve better sleep
  • Better Relationships – seamless, two-way conversations
  • Better Attitudes – less irritated because of fewer irritations
  • Live Life Uninterrupted!

#PassionPitch: Do you take time to adequately prepare for the intricacies of life, and how well do you keep in alignment with those plans?

A number of years ago when I was in college I was incredibly involved in a few clubs, student organizations and community service initiatives. I was on the executive board for this one organization and any student organization that wanted to remain active and get school funding had to attend an organizational seminar (meaning this was our time to learn how to plan). One of the ladies leading the seminar said something very powerful – perhaps you’ve heard of it before. She said

“Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance – or commonly known as the 5 P’s.”

Although I innately knew this, I never forgot how she relayed it and I’ve carried it with me ever since. As you know, our Monday Morning Devotion Coffee Connection is Biblically based, so we’re going to go to scripture to find out how God has designed this topic of balance – I am going to share TWO simple steps which effectively add ONE additional “P.”

Step One | Planning. The first step to achieving anything is planning. This first step is integral to achieving the dynamic balance that we desire in our personal lives and for our space.

Matthew 6:33-34 | So, is the Bible telling us NOT to plan? Well, kinda sorta. Remember when we talked about faith a few weeks ago and putting those things, needs, desires before God and waiting for God’s instructions? What perfect timing! So if I am trying to figure out how to balance getting more rest, eating properly, my work life, home life, social life and everything in between – all in effect to have a more peaceful, well-rounded life – what should I do? I should seek God first. Put those very things before God during our daily prayer time and ask Him to show us what unique steps we should take to achieve success – these steps are unique to us, to me – MY situation. There are a million and one blogs, books, television shows on achieving balance – some of which provide very great information on how to better organize your life. But the way to know if that specific move is for you is if 1) God is in it 2) You feel that “nudge”after having prayed to Him about it. Now, I am a person that loves to organize things. I am ALWAYS thinking of what I can do now, what my next move is, and how can I make something better – and I am a HUGE list-maker. But just before I go grabbing my pen & paper, I need to grab a spot on my knees with God and ask Him just how I should lay out my “Perfect Balance Plan.”

Step Two | Practice. Here we go – Practice Makes Perfect! You’ve never heard that before – well turns out, mom was right! You overcome by being Persistent in your Consistence. We have to be passionate and fervent about putting our action plan in motion! Otherwise, we are just spinning our wheels. I just have to say if we fail to practice with passion in this area, we have to question our true desire for change! You overcome by being Persistent in your Consistence. Through practice, we are simply laying the foundation to reap the rewards of our work.

Matthew 25: 1-13 & 14-30 | The question is, what are you doing with the time and resources that you are given? There is a time that the manifestation of your planning and practice shall reveal itself. And if you haven’t passionately practiced and consistently pursued your action plan, then your time, resources and talents have gone to waste. You will not reap the benefits of your Perfect Balance Plan, the manifestation will never come to place, and you will not reap the rewards of achieving success in balance – ultimately, this greatly displeases God.
